$4000 Friday Brings Rally Total To $8000
Over 200 Participants Entered
Friday, May 24 was an exciting day at Torrington High School. As seniors prepared for their prom, students
across the school gave an extra push to raise funds for local charities. Over 200 students have now signed on to
participate in the Raiders Rally for Torrington. As a group, they have raised pledges in
excess of $8000.
This new initiative is a student-sponsored marathon to give back
to the community of Torrington. Participants have raised pledges and food
donations for the local chapters of Susan B. Anthony, Friends in Service to
Humanity (FISH), and the Friendly Hands Food Back. Pledges are given in exchange for
participation in one of ten events, ranging from a Walk-a-Thon to a Knock-Out
Basketball Competition. All the events
will take place on May 31, 2013, at Torrington
High School. Parents and community volunteers will be on
hand to aid the students and to help collect additional donations.
Torrington Mayor Ryan Bingham and State Representative
Michelle Cook will be touring the events at the high school. “This is a great way to bring the town
together to support many different charities,” Rep. Cook said. “I am proud
parent of one of the students participating, and I applaud Torrington’s high school students for coming
up with idea to give back to the community.”
The event coincides with Torrington High School’s
Spirit Week, which culminates in a class and faculty competition and a series
of performances that highlights the many active and honored student
organizations, including the award-winning Music and Theatre programs.
