State Representative Michelle Cook (D-Torrington) is pleased to announce that Torrington High School will be holding its first ever “Raiders Rally for Torrington” on Friday May 31, 2013; an event she will be attending. This charity fundraiser involving the student body and community will benefit the local chapters of Susan B. Anthony, FISH/Friends in Service to Humanity, and the Friendly Hands Food Bank.

“This is a great way to bring the town together to support many different charities,” Rep. Cook said. “I am proud parent of one of the students participating, and I applaud Torrington’s high school students for coming up with idea to give back to the community.”

A morning kick off rally will begin at 5:30 am with spirit-building games and performances highlighting school groups.  From 7 to 11 am, ten sponsored events that appeal to a broad range of skills and interests will run concurrently, including a walk-a-thon, a read-a-thon, and a limbo competition.  Every participant will raise a minimum of $25 in pledges and 100% of the money raised will be split equally amongst the charities specified.

"The THS community wants to give back to the Torrington community.  While our clubs have already run many successful charity events this year, we were looking to do one unified drive to benefit the town," event coordinator, Erin Sullivan, commented.

Event planners are reaching out to businesses and town citizens for participation.  There is something for everyone to do - from sponsoring or joining a team of participants, to becoming an event helper, to donating supplies for the running of the event.

If you are interested in becoming a sponsor or would like more information, please contact Erin Sullivan, Event Coordinator, at esullivan@torrington.org.
